Nuku works without an account. We store only what the pet needs, never sell it, and one button deletes it.
What we store
| Your pet | Its name, birthday, needs, items and days together; your time zone (it picks the right crisis line and Nuku's bedtime); your alert settings. |
|---|---|
| Your key | Only a one-way hash of the secret key your browser keeps. We can't recover the key. |
| Chat | The last 8 exchanges (so Nuku can follow the conversation) and up to 12 short facts it remembers, like "sister is called Dana". Nuku is told not to remember health details, addresses or secrets. |
| Small memories | So Nuku can be kind about them later, without the AI model: which choices you tapped in "I feel anxious" (like "I can't sleep" or "Breathe with me", never anything you typed and never the self-harm choice) and whether it was night for you, kept for 30 days; the city you typed for the sky, if you chose one; and which of feed, pet, play or breathe you do most. Settings, "What Nuku remembers", lists all of it, with Forget and an off switch. |
| Tiny things | The one small thing Nuku offered you today (like "drink a glass of water") and whether you tapped "Done" or "Not today", for that day only. Wind-down and worry time are counted as numbers, nothing else. |
| Worry jar | Nothing. Your worries never leave your phone. What you write in the worry jar is kept only in this browser's own storage, on your device. It is never sent to our server or to the AI model, and we can't read it. Typing words about suicide or self-harm there opens the help panel right on your phone. "Empty the jar" in Settings, or clearing this site's data in your browser, removes it. |
| Notifications | Your browser's push address, if you allow notifications. For each guardian: the label you gave them and their browser's push address. |
| Lanterns | Lanterns you fold are kept for 21 days as word-list numbers (no text you typed), with your pet's random id (so a thank-you glow can find its way back, and reports can stop a writer) and your time zone's offset (so lanterns "travel"). Your pet keeps the lanterns you hung. To limit floods we keep a one-way, day-scoped hash of your network address for 2 days, never the address. Deleting your pet deletes the lanterns you wrote. |
| Everyone's light | The stars in Nuku's night window are real people: one for each pet whose person checked in today. On your first visit of each day (in UTC) we add one to a counter for one of three wide time-zone bands (the Americas; Europe and Africa; Asia and Oceania). The counter keeps no id, name, city or time: only the number, deleted after 3 days. Your pet remembers only the date it was last counted, so you count once. Anyone can see the totals, never who. Test pets never count. |
| Guardian glow | Your guardians' page shows only whether you checked in within the last day. |
| Counts | Daily totals with no identity: AI usage, alerts sent, crisis hand-offs. |
We don't ask for your name, email, phone number or location, and there are no accounts. The site sets no cookies and loads nothing from third parties: no ads, analytics or tracking pixels.
Who processes it
- Amazon Web Services hosts Nuku in Frankfurt, Germany (eu-central-1). The website is delivered through Amazon CloudFront.
- Amazon Bedrock runs the AI model (Claude by Anthropic) that answers chats, in AWS's EU regions. Your message, the recent exchanges and the remembered facts are sent with each chat. They are not used to train models.
- Browser push services (Google, Mozilla, Apple or Microsoft, depending on the browser) deliver notifications. The content is end-to-end encrypted to the receiving browser.
We never sell data or use it for advertising.
How long we keep it
- Your pet stays until you delete it. Guardian invites that nobody accepts expire after 14 days.
- Delete in the game removes the pet, its memory and small memories, chat history, guardians and timers at once. Backups roll off within 35 days.
- Server logs keep errors only (no chat content) for 14 days.
Your rights
You can see what Nuku remembers in Settings ("What Nuku remembers") or by asking it, forget the small memories with one button there, and delete everything with one button. Because we hold no name or email, we usually can't identify you beyond your pet's key; for any request (access, correction, deletion, objection) under GDPR, UK GDPR or US state laws, write to support@jestr.ai. In the EU you may also complain to your data protection authority.
